Casually turning my Photography journal into an Art journal!
I’m looking forward to my Photography course this year, i’m taking a ‘Fine Art’ (I know it’s not really a theme but fits my idea) approach and moving towards lots of alternative techniques and hopefully make my work much more creative/contempory :)

Been quite busy recently - going back to college tomorrow after two and a half weeks of lazing around :)
Anyway, the Miro exhibition I went to last week with my Mum at the Tate Modern was amazing! It was so well organised, and as you went through the gallery, you could clearly see Miros’ style progress and develop into the distinctive style. Although Miro is a surreal artist and most of his work is far from the ordinary, the styles of Miros’ work dramatically changed over his working career, but the works still contained recurring motifs and similar ideas. The art continuously relfected his life, combined with the political state of Spain and the rest of the world - the sudden changes in style didn’t create a jerky feel to the exhibition, instead the highly biographical work seemed to merge together as we ‘walked through his story.’ In fact, I feel if the work was similar, it not only risks a sense of repetitiveness, but I don’t think it would have represented the large changes within the political societly Miro lived in. The brightly coloured used of pastels, to the paintings of copper, large colour planes, to the burnt canvases and finally (with much more inbetween) to the bleak and isolated singular black lines on white backgrounds, the range of styles were highly inspiring and moving. And, coming back to my previous point, these different styles illustrated the emotions and different stages within Miros’ life.
I found it highly fasinating that Miro, a world renowned artist (yes, even when he was alive, not all artists need to die to become known!!) was not known in his own country, Spain. This was due to the political state of his country and meant Miro and other similar artists became oppressed in their own home. But, dispite this, private viewings were still arranged of his work in a friends house, where people could come and view the secret exhibitions.
A highly recommended exhibition - for anyone! No excuses :) There was even a baby who absolutely loved the colours and was just smiling her face off at the bright paintings.
